2007 was the first year for our middle school program. The middle school plan was developed by the teachers with the help of the students. The teachers developed a framework of academic and asked the students for their suggestions for elective (encore) classes.
The Middle School Academic program is based upon McDougal-Littell for reading and language and Saxon for mathematics. All students will take physical education and a Teen Leadership course as mandatory encore subjects. Other encore subjects they may choose include band and math logic, art and technology. We will also be starting a sports program this year for our middle school students.

Anti-Bullying Program: The Cocoa Club
The program targets 5th & 6th grade students that are looking for a connection with their peers. Cocoa Lounge is a sign up group that meets in the school social worker's office to discuss social issues, and share feelings and opinions in a forum that nurtures communication and builds social skills.
This is a voluntary group and only accepts referrals with permission of the student. It is set up as a “coffee house” environment with music, chairs, and of course…cocoa! Each group meets for approx. 45 minutes and will be announced in advance. The student must have work completed and must have demonstrated to his/her teacher that they have earned this. If a student is behind or not showing appropriate behavior in the classroom, they will not be permitted to attend. | |
