Educational Philosophy
The structure of the Academy’s education program is based upon the principles of Effective Schools Research. The first seven you see listed are directly from this research.
1. Clear School Mission: All staff members are committed to the mission of student success
2. High Expectations: There is an expectation of mastery for the students
3. Instructional Leadership: As the instructional leader, the principal continually shares the mission
4. Frequent Monitoring of Student Progress: Student progress is measured with a variety of assessments.
5. Opportunities to Learn and Student Time on Task: A large amount of time is used to engage students in learning groups both small and large
6. Safe and Orderly Environment: The school climate is conducive to learning
7. Parent-School Relations: Parents are welcome in the classrooms and as part of committees
8. Back-to-Basics Approach: There is a focus on a liberal arts education
9. Longer School Day: There are at least six hours of solid instruction
10. Structured Discipline: Students are expected to follow clearly defined procedures
11. Moral Focus Program: This program focuses on the development of character in our students
